Too Many Peanut Butters!

Less is more when it comes to peanut butter. There are dozens of peanut butter products on the market these days with all kinds of new recipes: “Reduced Fat!” “Omega-3s!” “Natural!” I often get the question, “Which one is best?” The answer is always the one with the least amount of ingredients. Peanuts are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, protein, fiber, several B vitamins, Vitamin E, polyphenols, and many other vitamins and minerals. With that kind of nutritional package, why would we want to substitute peanuts for other ingredients in peanut butter? Take a look at some popular peanut butter brands’ ingredient lists:

Another great alternative is to grind your own; this option is readily available in local grocery stores or make it at home with a sturdy food processor.
