Cardiovascular Guidelines

Now that the weather is warming up and summer is approaching, it’s time to get outside and move! Cardiovascular exercise is defined as 30 minutes or more of continuous activity. Below is an equation you can follow to help your cardio routine stay on track. If your cardio routine meets all of the guidelines of the FIT Principle, you are maximizing your hard work to help strengthen your heart and burn calories!

FIT Principle:

Frequency- 3-5 days of activity per week

Intensity- 50%-80% of max Heart Rate
(220-age= max HR)

Time- 30 to 45 minutes of continuous activity

If you are just beginning your cardio routine, some ideas for exercise are brisk walking, jogging, biking, swimming, rowing, hiking, or any other activity that can be done continuously in which your heart rate stay elevated for the duration of that period.
